Remove extra messaging notification

In all the both the droidmod and cyanogenmod roms there's an extra white notification icon, every time I get a messgase. Its getting kind of annoying, does anyone know what is causing this, and how I can remove it? I'm thinking changing the name of the file that is causing it, but then again it might be tied to the system resource required to receive sms. I could disable notifications in the messaging app, but I like the look of the standard eclair messaging icon better, and if its not required I might free up some resources.

I don't really know what icon you are talking about. Can you be more specific because I haven't noticed it.

I have never seen that on my phone. Must be something installed on yours.

Re: Remove extra messaging notification

Isn't that the themed default messaging icon? It looks like you are getting dual notifications. Maybe because of your unread message count widget? I use handcent, so I don't know.

Re: Remove extra messaging notification

Have you installed a second SMS client (Handscent, ChompSMS, etc.)? If so then you should go into Messaging then Menu->Settings and turn off Notifications so the normal client stops notifying you in addition to your new client.

Not having used those specific ROMs myself perhaps they contain another client. I'd do the above and see if it fixes your problem.

Re: Remove extra messaging notification

Sorry, it`s been a while. Lot`s of stuff going on.

Top white message notification, is unwanted.

Anyways, I haven`t installed any 3rd party applications for messaging. Removing the notifications from the settings, and using the "extra" notification will limit functionality, since it does not display the message or jump directly into the thread. Hopefully someone out there has experienced this and knows what its from. The only thing I can think of is, I remember installing the DroidMod rom and there being an option to install the G1 messaging app, which I did. Maybe it is default in the CyanogenMod as well.

Re: Remove extra messaging notification

The G1 messaging app is not the default in CyanogenMod. Heck, it doesn't even come in it. So, it looks like that program is still installed in some way or another.

Re: Remove extra messaging notification

Do you know that that's what it is? I completely wiped my phone when I went from droidmod to cyanogen.
