21 Fonts for rooted droid
This is another neat change that's come as a result of modders realizing that metamorph easily uses su permission to change files to read only and then push data to various parts of the ROM.
This app lets you choose any of the 21 fonts and it gets pushed to all aspects of your phone. http://forum.droidmod.org/index.php/topic,396.0.html You'll need to be rooted and have metamorph (available from the market).

Re: 21 Fonts for rooted droid
maybe can look into how they did this little pack and modify it to have tons of different fonts for easy install instead of just 21

Re: 21 Fonts for rooted droid
Yeah, it's super easy. I've just put another dozen on my phone.
They do need to be rather narrow though. It gets really glitchy when you put too broad a font. Case in point... STAR WARS font... doesn't jive. Last edited by banden; 03-01-2010 at 11:17 PM. |

Re: 21 Fonts for rooted droid
I found a script on androidforums called fontcool. You copy it to your xbin and set the files permissions. Then whenever you want to change your font, you put the ttf file you want at:
/sdcard/myne.ttf /sdcard/mynebold.ttf /sdcard/clockopia.ttf And then run "fontcool" from the terminal emulator. That's it, it swaps out the fonts and then you reboot. Easy as pie. If you only have a regular font, it will just use that for all 3 so you don't NEED to have a separate bold/clock font. Let me find the link. |

Damn, nevermind. That was on alldroid, which is currently down for maintenance.
I'll find the link as soon as it is back up. |

Re: 21 Fonts for rooted droid
I like the MetaMorph way because I have 40 fonts now sitting there waiting. All I need to do is open Metamorph and select the font I want and it goes. Takes a reboot to apply but that's the case regardless.
It just makes it less static and something that can easily be done on the fly. As this affects everything, like web pages, menu items, email, it is best to use standardized fonts that are legible. I like the star wars font as much as the next guy but it's just not doable in this manner. |

Re: 21 Fonts for rooted droid
Yeah I've been trying several with the 'fontcool' method. Anything with intricate details in its design comes out looking pretty bad sometimes because it is so small on the phone. Also if the font is too narrow, it can look pretty crazy.
I need to find the right balance. Something that isn't too bulky but also isn't so thin that it looks tiny on-screen. |

Re: 21 Fonts for rooted droid
I have been browsing http://www.dafont.com for a while. I'm about to try Edifice. I downloaded it and it was a .otf font, so I was about to delete it and look for another, then I found http://onlinefontconverter.com/ . It will convert between many fonts, is free, doesn't require registration, etc. Pretty useful tool IMO. Thought I'd share it.
