Getting a Droid but want a couple of opinions...

Has anyone had both the TP2 and the Droid? If so, what is your opinion as to the better device? I've currently got a TP2, but it looks like I'm trading one of my clients for a brand new Droid and wanted some input first.

I love my TP2, but I'm bored with it. There's no challenge in it, and I've done every mod/tweak that's out there. I'm looking for something new to tweak and the Droid has really peaked my interest.

Thanks in advance for any opinions/input you can offer.

Nate

Re: Getting a Droid but want a couple of opinions...

I had a TP2 and i only miss the keyboard is was a really good keyboard. But other than that I only miss one winmo app g-alarm.. and that's about it... the droid is a much better phone for the money..

I'm rooted and overclocked..the phone is zippy and fast at loading whatever i throw at it... the browser is amazing...with pinch zoom if you load a custom rom..

I was running MM on the TP2 and it was a nice phone.. but the droid will grow on you and you'll quickly forget about the TP2 and it's puny camera..

this phone is a keeper..

Re: Getting a Droid but want a couple of opinions...

I can tell you that I made the switch due to Microsoft's lack of caring and progress with WM( I could continue but I'm not here to bash Microsoft!). I've had the droid for a little over 2 weeks and LOVE the smooth operation and quickness of the phone. The pinch to zoom is an awesome feature and Google Maps is another plus! It took me about 20 minutes of playing with the droid in the store to make up my mind. That night my TP2 was listed on eBay hehe...

I had a TP2 for a while, but it doesn't even compare to the Droid. It's a night and day difference. Especially if you root, flash a rom, and overclock. This thing is fast.

Re: Getting a Droid but want a couple of opinions...

Well, my mind is definitely made up. Kyle, you hit it on the head about the lack of progress. I've done everything imaginable with the current WM builds, but I have maxed out on the things I can do now. I think I'll only miss a couple of software programs like Garmin and g-alarm, but I'm sure I'll find sweet alternatives. I did see the nightstand dock for the Droid today. It's pretty damn cool because it automatically turns the Droid into a bedside clock and digital photo frame. Some of the new stuff will make it easier to forget the old ones I'll miss.

I still love my WinMo, and will likely return towards the end of the year for Windows Phone 7 but I just need something NEW and FRESH. These are terms that aren't used to describe anything with WinMo. hehehe..

Thanks for the input...

Nate

Thank you for this thread. I was trying to decide on either the Omnia 2 or the Droid. Looks like the Droid all the way. Going to get mine right now.

Re: Getting a Droid but want a couple of opinions...

I had a Touch Pro2 with Mighty's ROM and loved it but the Droid beats it hands down in my opinion especially once it's rooted, ROM'd and overclocked as others have said. The only thing I'm missing is a Slingplayer app.

Is there a Garmin Mobile or iGo app for Droid? I know about Google and other stuff, but I like having offline access to maps just in case I'm somewhere without 3G. Doesn't happen often, but just in case.

(Hey AT&T, I may not be able to surf and talk, but at least I can surf high-speed just about anywhere in the country.)

I don't recall seeing anything on this on any of the forums I've been haunting. You'd need to be way in the weeds to not even have a 1x signal - not sure you'd need 3G to get enough data thru for Google Nav to work. I have a Garmin hiking GPS I use if I know I'm going to be out in the middle of nowhere or out of the country. I believe these are aGPS chips in these phones which don't work consistently without a cell signal from what I've read. Also, it seems that the SD card is pretty tied to the OS so I don't think the phone would work right if you popped in a SD card from one of those map companies, although I'm just guessing here.

Re: Getting a Droid but want a couple of opinions...

I'm in the same situation. I currently have a TP2 but getting tired of it. I checked out alot of Roms but nothing ever did it for me. My main concern is that if I will like it. I tried it out in the store but can't really do want I want to it. Can it read edit and create MS Docs. That is one of my biggest concern. All of my files for work are MS Word and I need to access them quickly and easily. Also, I am seeing everyone talking about rooting and overclocking and was wondering if thats like ROM flashing. On that note can you flash roms and how difficult is it. Also, I have a yahoo email account and was told I would have to pay for my yahoo service to get my emails to the phone. Sorry to ask so many questions (plus I have alot more) but would like an honest opinion from actual users instead of a store rep trying to sell me a phone.
