2.1 update questions

so i have had my droid for about 2 weeks now and was planning on holding out till the 2.1 update before i think about possibly rooting the phone (if the update fixes some of the issues i have with the phone then i wont be as eager to root it just yet)

but there is one issue that is a deal breaker for me, my favorite function of my diamond was the ability to do wifi tethering, i know i can do it on the droid if rooted, but what are the chances that the 2.1 update will include wifi tethering?

my other big issue is the ability to copy and paste from emails.. i was told i can do it by holding down shift and touching the screen, but i have yet to get it accurate enough to select what i want to.... any one have any fixes for this? is there a different email app that does a good copy/select?
