Re: couple of questions new droid owner

root gives you access to do anything on your phone basically. and its not too harsh on new users anymore i want to say "Sholes SMUpdater" will Autoroot and install the recovery image for you and even flash their rom all from one program.. so no real need to do it manually like most of us did.

Re: couple of questions new droid owner

most likely but they do have an option to go back to "stock 2.0.1" with no root or anything just like you bought it incase you need to take it back....

Re: couple of questions new droid owner

newest sholes smupdated http://downloads.sholes.info/smupdater-8.apk

and to install that APK go into settings then applications and click unknown sources... and install "Astro File Manager" from the marketplace and that will let you install that apk from your sdcard and from there it should auto-root/install recovery and if you wish install the newest sholesrom and let you have the Default HQ Youtube hack as well as many other things

Yes! Rooting will give you access to all kinds of fun stuff like Wifi tethering, overclocking, cool new skins/themes, and a lot more stuff (including the youtube high quality hack).
