USB Host Mode on Droid.

Looks like this guy (with some help) found a way to run peripherals on the Droid phone.

Here is the how to.

I may give it a go this weekend and see if I can get anything to work.

Re: USB Host Mode on Droid.

Better to do it while your Droid is still under warranty!

As far as peripherals go, is there a list of things that it will accept besides keyboards? It's so unfortunate it won't recognize mass storage! Imagine having a powered 1TB hard drive with all your music, movies and pictures on it, all readable by the Droid. A man can dream, right?

"while the stock Android kernel may not support USB storage it does support USB keyboards."

Re: USB Host Mode on Droid.

How far has this been taken? I was about to start a new post asking questions about this and (thankfully) pccg forums' auto-searcher led me here. How many of you have used this functionality? It seems like there are a LOT of options that we should be taking advantage of here, are any rom programmers aboard?

Re: USB Host Mode on Droid.

USB is such an adaptable technology, think about it: UNIVERSAL serial bus. More and more technology is starting to use that form factor for data transfer and power. There's probably a hundred different uses for it right now, and who knows whats going to come out tomorrow? I vote yes for support of USB host mode on the Droid.

Re: USB Host Mode on Droid.

It already does. You just need to reboot while using a special usb plug. There are a couple of people that have made working switches to get in to USB host mode. As far as I have read there is no other way enable it. In fact here is an image of another cable that can be used (schematic). Then the kernal needs to be modded with the host info (I haven't seen one made available though).

Re: USB Host Mode on Droid.

Blazing you never lie. I've seen that plug but what we need is support from developers and the guys who write the kernals, so that we can use all of our usb accessories with the droid

Re: USB Host Mode on Droid.

I'd like to hook up a printer, scanner, keyboard, mouse. Guess there's not alot of call for this yet.

Re: USB Host Mode on Droid.

With processors like qualcomms snapdragon being released and pocket pc's beginning to see speeds above 1ghz and steadily approaching 2 or more, this kind of functionality will become standard in the near future. I agree with Banden, I'm going to want a monitor, keyboard, and mouse hooked up to this thing. Well, maybe not my Moto Droid specifically but who's to say an Incredible cant be overclocked to 2.1ghz? I mean, we're talking about solidifying the definition of "Pocket Pc." You can argue that well hey, it's not a "pocket" pc if you're bringing a 19 inch LCD anywhere with you but the fact remains that this is where the future should be (and IS, afaic) headed.
