The Nexus One has official multi-touch, the Droid to follow?

Check out this news:

http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/02/n...es-multitouch/

Looks like Google is finally officially enabling multi-touch on the Nexus One in the US. Hopefully this is a sign that whenever 2.1 hits for the Droid it will include multi-touch (and heck, while we're hoping let's pray for flash support!).

I've never felt a huge need for pinch zooming (since a double tap is more efficient usually) but after using the Milestone browser for a while I can say it's nice to have the option when you need to zoom in more precisely. And it would be very helpful in Google maps, because sometimes the default zoom options aren't quite right.

It doesn't say anything about Droid. It's a shame that as many of us as bought this phone we are left to wait while google makes their phone better. I am not liking google very well at the moment.

Over clock your phone, with the newer profiles it makes it faster then the nexus one, and it has a keyboard, (better batt life if you opt for the scaled profile) Also the screen on the nexus fades on the corners so we have a better display too.

I think that this is what the droid will be upgrading to. I think it is better to put these updates into 2.1 before updating the droid. Less variables if something is wrong. That being said, I hope they don't drag their feet getting this to the droid now.

Even if the Droid doesnt officially get multitouch, the folks at alldroid will definately be able to port these apps.

I never said the Nexus One is a better phone. I actually tried out a classmate's Nexus One today and I was very disappointed with the screen quality. The colors look pretty good, but it doesn't look nearly as sharp as the Droid's screen. You can see what I think is the capacitive touch layer on the screen (a bunch of tiny dots in a grid covering the entire screen). And the touch responsiveness didn't seem to be as good as the Droid (although I could have been imagining that, some kind of superiority complex I guess). The one thing that I will give the Nexus One is that it feels soooooo much nicer in your hand. The rounded edges and the metal body make it feel very, very nice.

And whether it's through an official update or porting, one way or another we'll get the multi-touch versions of our apps

look at the benchmark results. with jit enabled even the slowest n1 is faster than the highest oc'ed droid. jit isn't working so well on the droid last i looked.

dunno how that relates to real world performance though. i'm just glad to have it running as fast as the n1 stock speed so flash will play as good as the n1 demo.
