Can some tell me wtf Nandroid is??

I followed all the instructions in parkjams thread on how to root and I think I am all good there, I installed droid root helper and followed all those directions but I am confused as hell. I would like to create a bcakup but I do not know what nandroid is,l nor can I find a folder for it on my sd card. Please help I am so f'ing lost right now. Thanks in advance.

Never mind, I think I figured it out. I went through everything again and it worked, I guess I missed something the first time.

My understanding is that it's part of the rooting process and your boot screen will now have a recovery option (assuming your rom has a recovery.)

I haven't rooted yet so I'm not pro. Thats just he jist of my understanding of it from lurking around.

Nandroid is basically a backup/restore feature, that allows you to backup all the contents of your phone (including apps and personal settings) to a file on the SD card. Said file can be selected later to restore your phone to its previous state. The way most ROMs are flashed at this point is by putting a file modified backup file in your Nandroid folder and selecting that file for a restore.
