I just rebooted and then my Swype was disabled also. I'm installing Shapewriter as I type.

Downloaded shape writer again. I didn't realize it was free now. They have made some nice improvements on it. Its much better now.

I am running smoked glass 5 and I cannot seem to be able to uninstall the Swype that was included, and therefore the new one will not install.

Unfortunately, smoked glass has swype built in, you might try deleting the apk in /system/app and see if it works

I actually think I might like shape writer better than swype now. I like the auto caps and faster delete.

BlazingWolf: Thank you! I really liked the first version of Swype. But this new beta is even better. Auto caps after hitting the period key. Fast backspace! Very nice indeed. Thanks for the link.

I tried to DL it last night over WiFi, but gave up after letting it try for 45 mins. I know it's size is aroud 3M's, but it shouldn't take that long. It never gave me any kind of status bar or anything. It just said " downloading swype" and that's it. The bad thing is that the Swype Installer app won't run in the background.
