Please help keep my Droid from waking me (and my wife) up!

I just got traded my TP2 for a Droid on Friday. I have to say, this thing kicks the crap out of my TP2 and WinMo 6.5.
I have Gmail and Hotmail setup on this thing. Why does it keep notifying me that I have new mail when the messages are not really "new"? Yes, I have unread messages in my inboxes, but there's no need for it to keep reminding me. With WinMo it only notifies me when the e-mails first arrive and that's it. Is there anyway to set the Droid to do the same? It likes to scare the crap out of us at 3:00am. I'd rather not have to set it to silent to take care of it.
Thanks

I use K9 email and it only notifies me when the email arrives. I don't remember the native apps doing what you describe either.

Re: Please help keep my Droid from waking me (and my wife) up!

I had a customer with the same problem with hotmail. The droid keeps saying that theres new email when you already checked it or not, There is something wrong with hotmail and the droid setup. I tried everything i could from my end. Finaly solution being that I just forwarded her hotmail to her gmail and made her gmail send out email as her hotmail address. as far as i know there is no real fix to this yet. maybe later OTA update for this problem will see.

FoxyRing FTW. I LOVE this app. Check it out: http://www.androlib.com/android.appl...ring-qxim.aspx

Well that sucks that there's not solution for this. I just disabled the notifications for now. Now I just have to check it periodically. I hope this gets fixed.

Can you just put your device in Airplane mode(radio off) while you sleep? Then you can still use the alarms to wake you up and in the morning turn the radio back on to download any email/updates/messages.

I did the same thing at thats been working OK for me too. You can probably bet money that we'll see a fix, but whether it's through an OTA update or a developers hotmail app is up in the air. There are enough people using the Droid and Hotmail that someone will figure out something to make them play nice together. Same goes for yahoo as well. I guarantee you that that is my opinion

P.S. Did you look at Foxyring? You can set it to not let your phone ring or alert you to messages or email during certain times. You can also set certain contacts to an exception list so that they can call you during those hours as well.

Did you compare FoxyRing with the Locale app? I've been using Locale for what sounds like similar uses. At night, turn off notification but let the ringer ring. At work, to run silent. Etc.

I saw someone post that the two apps complement each other so I may have to give it a look.

Re: Please help keep my Droid from waking me (and my wife) up!

Foxyring can actually be used as a plug in for Locale, its just a dedicated volume app and includes a feature that adjusts ringer volume automatically based on ambient noise. Ringer is louder in noisy environments and softer when there is less ambient noise present.
