Verizon Readying Droid X Update for July 19

So, how does this work. This is my first android.
The OTA update goes out and it's foisted on me whether i want it or not? Do i have a choice? What happens to all of my apps? I already have kindle, will i have to uninstall it? Etc etc?

The ota update should be optional and not mandatory, also if you update its not going to affect whatever you already have on the phone.

I just went to Setting > About Phone >System Updates and was able able to download the update instead of waiting for a notification to appear. Just wanted to let everyone know.

But I don't think this is the Froyo update.
