Android - "Sort of" Working on Fathom!
There's a thread over at xda-developers that ajeet17181 started that has a link to an android build ported from one meant for a Toshiba phone.
Working Android for LG Fathom - xda-developers It's made to run off of a microSD card, so should coexist with the existing windows mobile installation without messing it up. [strikeout]I'm currently downloading the files and have yet to run it on my Fathom, but thought you all would want a heads up that something like this is available for the phone.[/strikeout] Okay, I've downloaded the software, stuck it on an SD card and after MANY MANY minutes it finally booted into Android. You have to wait a LONG time while it writes the initial file store when all the text is on the screen and while it looks like it's frozen, then it'll stream alot of text on the screen and then stop while displaying a DELL logo for a couple minutes... it'll also look like it froze, until it finally displays the green Android mascot. That's when it's successfully initially booted into Android. The intro bits refer to the HTC HD2, so just ignore that fact and be happy that android even boots on the Fathom. I don't have a data plan on my prepaid SIM, so didn't test out the data bits. I did do an outgoing call and it worked fine. The UI is quite snappy, and much faster than XDAndroid on my 500MHz Touch Pro 2. It definitely looks like Fathom is a great platform for Android... especially if more features are implemented. Thanks to ajeet17181 at xda-developers for all his/her hard work. Quote:

2: You phone won't get locked. it's unlocked in the radio, not in the software. We've already got a thread on that. 3: Try PDAnet to get your phone to act as a modem. |

The second paragraph in the original post is a LINK to the THREAD on xda-developers. Really, you're really trying to connect a MOBILE PHONE up to a wired telephone line to access the internet through Dial Up? PS I'm glad to help you, but PLEASE TYPE IN A PROPER ENGLISH. This is not SMS, you have more than 160 characters to express yourself in a literate manner. |

Re: Android - "Sort of" Working on Fathom!
Verizon removed dialup networking capabilities from the phone. Your only options are to pay for PDAnet or for WMWiFiRouter.
Sorry. |

Re: Android - "Sort of" Working on Fathom!
The question is, why? Why put half-working Android on the Fathom? We also have resistive screens. I wish someone would make a new WM rom for this thing...

Re: Android - "Sort of" Working on Fathom!
Well... Someone found the Fathom Service Manual LG VS750 Fathom service manual - CPKB - Cell Phone Knowledge Base
I wonder what that will lead to... I have browsed through it, but haven't seen much yet. If only we could get the internal testing tools. Seems to be a setting to write to NVRAM... |
