But we may not be on the same page. If you never use Modem Link then it may be hard to explain (or maybe you understand and I just don't). In the Windows directory there is Modem Link.lnk. If you hit that it brings up a program that is entirely different then the program you get with USB to PC.

I pay Verizon $30 a month for 5G of data for phone as modem. I do that bc I am afraid they will see my data usage with the CM Wifi and bust me. So Verizon offers a program for my desktop called VZ Access Manager. I run Modem Link. Plug in via USB. Run VZ Access and then connect to the web. Well, now I only get an error.

"Connection failed - there was a hardware failure in the modem (or other connecting device) error 692."

So Internet Sharing option works. Modem Link does not (and yes I plugged in the USB hit the 3rd option etc.) I know Modem Link works on at least one custom rom (MyCleanImagio).

Any ways - if you can think of something - great. If not - say la vi (or however you spell it).

Oh yeah - is there way to place the CHTLockScreen on one of my quicklinks? I tried DeviceLock.exe but that was the stock one. I know you can hit Menu\Lockscreen, but it takes like 10 minutes for the menu to scroll up.

thanks.

Unless I am totally wrong Internet Sharing allows for the use of your phone's modem. Is that not what you are looking for? I did not include Modem Link since I thought that is what Internet Sharing does. Help!?!?

I will look into CHT Lockscreen, as I do not use it to lock my screen. I use what I think is a vastly superior product in S2U2.

New updated ROM links are in first post. I have also added a change log to detail major revisions. Not everything will be captured in this change log.

I would be interested in knowing how battery life is with either ROM. I have some different reports and am trying to get a handle on if these ROMs have an issue with battery life.

Steve

Modem Link allows my phone to connect to VZ Access Manager - which is Verizon'z only approved way of tethering your device to your computer. Internet Sharing allows me to connect - but it does not allow me to connect via Verizon's officially sanctioned method. Of course using a custom rom isn't high on their officially sanctioned list is it? But if you are going to continue to make improvements - I would appreciate a version with Modem Link working.

So S2U2? Well, it must work well with this rom. It is free isn't it? And it can be mapped to a quick link? I will give it a try.

thanks for working with me.

I have a question about the task manager. I was previously told on another rom that i used to use touch X task manager to be able to add the x at the top of the screen, and you can set it to close open programs, I have the cab on my storage card, but for some reason, its not allowing me to install it. Does anyone know why this is happening, and how i can set this rom to have the x and set it to close the running programs?

Ok, and also, I tried to install xda shutdown, I can't install that either. Im not able to install anything. Any idea whats going on?

PS. It doesn't even give me an option to install on memory, or storage card. Just tells me unsuccessful..

Its possible the Cookie Hometab is the issue, but not having the taskbar I cannot test. Would you like to provide the taskbar so I can see what is happening?

21903 - every time I tried to use WI-FI got the connection error so have gone back to the 23563 rom which works fine.

Re: Steve's Imagio Manila ROM v1.1

Steve - I installed the updated rom. Modem Link still gives me that same error... "Unable to connect... blah blah blah... hardware failure something something..." Thanks for trying to figure it out for me. Maybe in a future build.

Here's a question - after working on the modem link issue, I did a full restore from SPB Backup. Does that mean that I basically reverted to the previous rom? Or do I still retain the new improvements of this rom? After flashing a new rom - can you do a restore from SPB? So far it is working great. But if I upgraded by downloading and then downgraded by restoring - well - I don't want to do that.

Hope that makes sense. Thanks for your advice.

If you restore your entire ROM with SPB then unless the backup is my ROM you will have overlaid it. If you only backup a piece with SPB then only that might be overlaid.

I will put Modem Link on the back burner for now, as I have some 21903 issues I need to work through. Once I get things more organized I will come back to the Modem Link issue. I have to say if you are paying $30 for tethering don't you think that is alot on top of the data plan you are paying for? I pay $30 for my data plan and would never let VZW squeeze me for more. VZW have bigger fish to fry than a person using their data plan for tethering.

I did some more testing this afternoon and I was able to connect with VZ Access Mgr on my Win7 laptop. I am doing one more test, but I believe I have a working ROM with Modem Link embedded.

Edit: ok all testing is complete and successful. 23563 ROM has been updated with working Modem Link.

What else are you running on it app wise? I like the fact the available memory is staying constant. This was a huge problem with the original stock ROM, as there must have been a memory leak somewhere.

If you can watch your battery life I would be interested in that also. Next updates will include the 21874 XIP, as the current ROMs are running with the stock 21849 XIP. I didn't want to change until I had stable builds.

Everything I have read about battery consumption blames the apps like email,Facebook ,Tweeter and the others that update constantly.

Apps I am running:

Opera mini 5
Google maps
Weather Radar
Showcase
SKtools
Soft Reset
hotmail
Battery 1500 mAh from 7:30 am to 7:57 pm - 46% left.

Steve - I don't know whether I should be happy or sad. lol. Just finished setting up my phone after installing the last update.

Thanks a bunch. I don't suppose Modem Link is something that can be put in a .cab that I can just install?

I was also reminded by another member about the "thank you button" . so I thanked you on just about every single post ;)

Actually there are pieces of Modem Link that are embedded in the OS, so I will just keep it as I progress through my updates. I cannot promise that something else might break it, but will make sure its on my test list.

Awesome...thanks. It just takes a long time to switch from camera to video when you want to capture something quickly. Lets just say I hang around with some really funny people. lol

AND I also wanted to tell you that with build 21903 when you press the end key, it brings up the options

SET VIBRATE..

No options for Turn off Phone...Which is no bid deal. I just installed XDA Shutdown.

Updated ROMs are now available. These include a Camcorder shortcut, and addtl core cleanup.

Please take a look at Start/Programs. I have been toying with the idea of cleaning this up a bit. Can you let me know if you have all the links you need, or am I missing any that should be there.
