Re: |I|6.5.5|ROM|WWE| ★ Energy Series 23547/21895 |Mar 17| ★ Sense 2.5 / 2.1 ★
Hey all-
I've been using the new rom now for a week or so, and I gotta say...tis sweet! That being said, here are some bugs I've found using the newest 2.5 Rom (the non 6.5.5 build). No cookie monster or maxmanila. The only modifications that have been made beyond adding a couple games is the addition of the "new" 2.5 messaging client.
Unfortunately, I have noticed a few bugs:
1) There is a memory leak of some sort. I have been unable to determine what initiates the leak, but I suspect it is initiated by the "new" HTC text app. The new text app also runs a bit slowly from time to time. Nevertheless, it's SO much better than the old one in so many regards that I am hesitant to remove it.
2) Again, with the new text messaging framework, when you create a new text, and attempt to type in the recipients name in the "To:" field, it simply inputs the name without searching for a matching contact. So, if I type in "Lance" it simply displays lance, whereas in past versions is would bring up a list of the contacts matching "Lance". In order to input a contact, you must do so through the contact manager.
3) I'm fairly certain this has been mentioned, but I am unable to send or receive MMS messages. I don't know if there's a fix but if someone could point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it.
4) While I expected 2.5 to be a bit more battery intensive, I'm going through about 50% of the battery in a day (few calls, 15 or so e-mail), whereas with 2.1 rom (non winmo 6.5.5) I was getting down to no less than 80% under similar conditions. I have selected CDMA only, disabled all of the normal stuff, and set backlight to auto. This helped, but only marginally so. I will say that while I do not have specific data, the battery drain seems to correlate with the memory leak. Again, I suspect both the memory leak and the battery drain to be initiated by using some function in the new SMS interface.
5) On the lockscreen, when you tap the lock slider to bring up the mini-sliders for missed call, email etc, the smaller icons seem to be skewed to the left. Also, calendar reminders are left-justified, rather than center.
6) The YouTube app is unusable. While you can search for videos and load them, many don't play. If they do, there is no sound. When stopping the videos, the phone becomes unresponsive, requiring the removal of the back cover and a reset. I have attempted to change some settings in youtube (IE high and low Q) and I have selected the option in the volume settings for a single master and system volume. Neither attempt has resolved any issue.
7) The flip clock has a tendency to show number "halves" overlapping, particularly when the tens place changes (IE 12:49->12:50). I tried to take a screenshot of it, but unfortunately launching shake n save makes the clock behave itself. Basically, it resembles the 5 and the 0 having their bottom half overlaid atop the mirror image of the top half of the previous number. So, in the case above, the entire zero is present, but beneath the bottom half of it remains the mirror image of the top half of the 9 that flipped down. I hope that makes sense...ha, I guess a picture really does say a thousand words.
Aside from those bugs, I have a couple requests/ideas to tailor the functionality of the ROM to better suit the nature of the Imagio.
1) As we don't have a dedicated lock button, I enjoyed having the lock softkey on the home page. I switched from 2.1 to 2.5 for this reason. It's a PIA to have to hit start then lock in 2.1. While in 2.5 you can put a lock button in the hot-links, I would rather have it back in the left soft-key in lieu of the useless (IMHO) "action" hot key. Unfortunately, when I attempted to use BsB Tweak to assign the left softkey to the lock app (in both 2.1 and 2.5) doing so causes the removal of any text from the left softkey area. When you press where it should be, the phone becomes unresponsive. The only way I have found to restore the "action" button to it's original place is a re-flash. An easy, or pre-installed means of restoring the "Lock" button to the left-softkey would be OUTSTANDING!
2) It would be really nice to have a "mark all as read" option available in the email preview page. I noticed the addition of the "delete message" option, but I'm not sure if that comes with 2.5 or if it is an addition. In any case, if possible, a mark all as read would be nice to have w/o having to go to the inbox to do it.
3) With regards to the weather panel: In the original rom, if you added a city, it would have a link on the bottom right just above the weekly forecast which said "more details online" and would link you to the online weather details. Unfortunately 2.5 seems to lack this. It would be really nice to have this functionality back, if not for both the primary (or current) city display (which previous ROMS have not had), but at least for any city one might add. The current weather is kind of useless without being able to quickly see an hour-by-hour forecast.
4) I personally enjoy having the auto-landscape enabled, rather than having to click the rotation app. I may have missed a setting, but if not, having the option of auto-landscape would be very nice.
5) I am well aware this is probably something Opera needs to address, but having the zoom slider back would be nice.
6) This is almost silly, but in 2.1 the top and bottom "bars" had a carbon fiber background. In this build, it appears to be a perforated leather pattern. Although simply a matter of personal taste, I would love the option of either having the carbon fiber background, or better yet, just the standard black. Ideally, the option of quickly switching between a number of those backgrounds (maybe as a theme changer) would be SWEET!
At this point, I am literally sitting here with my phone connected to a PC debating whether I want to return to 2.1 to avoid the battery and mms issues in particular. That being said, I am very hesitant to revert back due to the enhanced functionality of the system as a whole, in particular the SMS interface and Opera 10 functionality. Nevertheless, the issue with battery drain/memory leak is a big problem for me so *shrug*...I'll probably make a switch depending on the improvement in the next rom.
In any case, NRG ROMS are outstanding, and this is no exception! When my girlfriend got her TP2, I immediately put an NRG on hers, and she LOVES it as I do mine. So, thanks again for all of your great work and please keep it up! I have been extraordinarily impressed with just how well this phone performs!
