Upgrading Phone On VZW

I would like to get rid of my Vogue for a new device but I have two problems.

1. My vogue is used for business purposes & I bought it off of ebay & had my company activate it.

2. I have no data plan with my phone but have a wireless card in my laptop.

When I went into VZW last year to purchase the Touch Pro I was told that I would have to have a data plan. This is even though I was going to buy the phone without a contract.

If I buy a phone off of ebay would I still be required to have a data plan? Perhaps I should consult our company rep.

If you have a unlimited data plan on a wireless card you would think they could give you data on a cell phone for free.

Re: Upgrading Phone On VZW

Unfortunately, if you are activating the phone on Verizon's network and they will only activate it on certain plans then you just have to take what you can get. Sucks in my opinion . If you tried to activate it yourself without going into a store and just happened to talk to a person that did not ask which phone it was then maybe you could just activate it on a call only plan but it's a long shot. You would have to buy a used phone or a new one directly from the manufacturer. I say just get a minimal data plan.

Re: Upgrading Phone On VZW

Any newer PDA or smartphone requires a data plan. The Vogue(xv6900) is the last one that does not require the data plan.

yeah. either that or the moto q... but that kinda sucks.
actually, what my friend did... he bought a touch pro, and after 6 months of data, he just used wifi.

so you can cancel data after 6 months. was planning on doing that after i buy a touch pro2. but not worth it.

Re: Upgrading Phone On VZW

Personnally I think it is a bunch of BS making me pay for something that I don't want. If I had a choice wouldn't use VZW at all but unfortunately I don't. I am going to see if our company rep can do anything.

my friend is using an omnia with data plan. Does it mean that he can cancel his data plan after 6 months? His contract is 2 yrs.

yeah. i know someone who did that to save money.
and he sold it to his friend, who doesn't have to pay for broadband (verizon's).

thats what i plan to do. if my uncle gives me his omnia. probably not, because i love my vogue.
