Difficulty unlocking my vogue

My ROM version is: 3.09.666.1 WWE
Radio Version: 3.42.50
Hardware Version: 0001
PRL version: 31404
PRI version: 2.03_007[]
I'm with Bell Mobility and my device currently works with GPS.

I was reading ImCoKeMaN's unlock post and having great difficulty understanding what I'm supposed to do (I've never done this sort of thing before, if I break my Vogue its not under warranty, I'd have to buy a brand new one).

I read on ImImCoKeMaN's post that you run the EXE, and the CMD window should apparently guide you through the process? I had thought I read on XDA that you're supposed to run the RRU.

I also don't know about the GPS and radio. Apparently if you don't have the correct version radio, and do have GPS when you're supposed to not have GPS then the unlocking wont work.

Also, I only have a 4GB memory card and no card reader. So if I failed and had to fix this from the memory card I couldn't do that. I'm quite sorry for this post, I know I might be told to search the forum, but even now I'm unsure whether or not unlocking and flashing a 6.5 rom onto my device is worth it. On one hand I really want to have a more finger friendly UI, but on the other hand I would be terrified if my device broke. I'm not sure what the probability is of me failing, or if I could fix my device if something went wrong. If I couldn't, then I'd have to fork over the few hundred dollars for a new device (and I'm told they don't make HTC Touchs any more by the Bell reps).

Anyways, for a newbie like me, I guess I just want someone to hold my hand and show me how to do this for dummies

Re: Difficulty unlocking my vogue

Since you have a GPS-enabled ROM, you want to unlock using Coke's 2.31

Once you do that, I don't think you need to do much else; but you may be required to flash a ROM onto the device.

Your radio shouldn't need updated.

In order to unlock, you need to have an ActiveSync connection established, then use the unlocker.

Follow the instructions carefully because it insists that you unplug the usb cable at one point, if you don't do it when it tells you to, the update will fail.

Ok thank you, you don't know how much I appreciate that. Is there any possible chance that this could fail and my device could be broken beyond repair:P?

as long as doesn't become unplugged during the radio flash you should be fine.
these phones are hard to brick.

Thanks. At the risk of sounding like someone who doesn't have the balls to flash his phone (even though I know I don't), could you give me the worst case scenario? I'll have nightmares about fatal error messages during the flashing and bricking my phone. I know you said as long as I don't unplug my phone, but I'm still unsure as to how safe this procedure actually is.

Re: Difficulty unlocking my vogue

Just follow the instructions given above and you'll be fine...in a week or 2 you'll probably be flashing a new ROM all the time once you figure out how easy it is to do.

I've been reading this forum for almost a year now, and I've never seen anyone who said they bricked their Vogue. So, that's only anecdotal, but trust me, I've read a lot of the forums for the Vogue, so it's something. I had thought I had screwed mine up once when it got interrupted in the middle of Flashing, but I just started over and it ended up working. So go for it!

(Now that I say all of that you will probably brick it. )

Lol, I'm actually embarrassed to say how afraid of hurting the device I am. I just really want to make sure that I don't screw anything up, and if I do I would be able to fix (especially since I don't have a small micro SD card, I'd only be able to fix the phone over activesync).

Re: Difficulty unlocking my vogue

As long as you follow all the steps you'll be fine. If you have problems we can help or you can find the answers with a search. It's intimidating at first, but it's much easier than it seems. The hardest part really is choosing a ROM. I personally cook my own with the ppckitchen, but there are some great ROMs out there too.
