i have no experience with a 6900 on the vzw network but i know for a fact that running nfsfan's rom i've completely disabled data (i was in canada and didn't want the roaming charges) and was still able to get a lock with tomtom 6. are you sure you're setting right com port? i know on my vogue it's com port 4. i can get a lock on it right now in under 20 seconds and it's not even activated (i use a touch pro).
