In your pics it looks as if its a metal flake - is that from the dye, the protective coating or just a trick from the camera like an optical illusion

looks like a metal flake with the sparkles, thats why I was asking if a metal flake was used or just an optical illusion from the lights/flash and the clear coat

Oh yeah, i used flash on that picture to show the effect of the clear coat. I think it's pretty cool

It will obviously void your warranty, but all you have to do is take off the back, take out the 4 screws in the corners, and take out the battery. Then take a small flat head screwdriver, and push and pry in between the silver piece and the front casing. It should pop off. Then you have to take everything off of it, like the speaker up at the top, the buttons, the touchscreen, make sure it is only the casing that is going in the water. Good luck if you try!

you could always buy a sprint casing off ebay and install it on your phone
