Accelerometer Chip

After downloading 2 dll files to my phone (HTCAPI.dll, HTCSensorSDK.dll) I can now run accelerometer based programs on my HTC Touch with no errors but the software doesn’t read any data. Knowing that the HTC Touch doesn’t have an accelerometer chip in it, is there possibly a place on the main board in the phone that I can connect a specific accelerometer chip to? Evan so, will the phone recognize it.

Many devices that I have opened up have spots designed for features that weren’t available originally. For instance inside a PS3 controller, under the PS button, there is a spot for an LED to illuminate the button. And in another instance inside a small wireless spy cam there is a place for a mic on the board.
