Ok I just went to the roof of a 25 story building in Brooklyn Heights (one of the taller bldgs here) and got 9 sats in less than a minute. Looks like I'm good. I'm even locking by my office window with 5 sats although I think that may be a cache. Thanks everyone.

Re: Verizon GPS not working anymore

For what it is worth here's what I have running. I suspect it was just the Valhalla mode that made a difference

HKLM\Software\HTC\SUPL AGPS\EnableAGPS = 0
HKLM\Software\HTC\SUPL AGPS\GPSMode = 0
HKLM\Software\Valhalla Legends\GPSServer\Mode = 0
HKLM\Software\Valhalla Legends\GPSServer\PDEAddress = C3CF657E
HKLM\Software\Valhalla Legends\GPSServer\PDEPort = 7788

Thanks again

Custom Roms (DCD, 6.5 betas, etc) use QPST and aGPS cab to unlock. A minute is still slower than the immediate (5-10 sec) locks that were common a month ago. Things have definitely changed for most of us that were spoiled with turning on GPS in a concrete room in the basement and having it work immediately.

My GPS still worked without using the Valhalla with both the MR1 & MR2. I only started using NFSFAN's ROM 2 weeks ago. This was because I had to soft reset every time I need to use the GPS.

I understand that NFSFAN's has the GPS unlock built into his ROM. For This reason I fail to understand why poeple are pissing & moaning about their GPS not working. Flash his ROM or silular & problem solved.

I doubt you were getting 5-10 sec. locks because my Tilt wasn't that fast.

Actually I guess you do need to do the PDEAddress and PDEPort registry changes - my data was restored after I revised those (though I think the data originally did work for a while)

"Unlocked" does not equal working GPS. Mine's been unlocked since the alltel drivers first were working on VZW with the alltel gps rom with the 3.37+ radio; I never flashed the VZW rom that relocked the gps. And since last Sunday or Monday, no agps for me either.

Actually, I was, using ppckitchen.org's kitchen to build a rom and having done the modification that required hooking the phone up to the computer and running some program.

Re: Verizon GPS not working anymore

Another update on my experience. After a soft reset and getting home I have been unable to get a lock. It worked on my office roof on the 25th floor in Brooklyn but I'm unable to get a lock at my apartment in Manhattan. I tried on the 10th floor roof deck (surrounded by much taller buildings) with no luck. If I need that much clear sky this will never be reliable. I tried Google Maps and Live Search. I've seen people use some kind of GPS viewer to prime the GPS before and wondered if this might help. I don't know what a good app to prime is though. Any suggestions? Does the HTC GPS tool work for this? I have a feeling this might be the final straw after almost 10 years with Verizon. It shouldn't be this hard just to have basic funtionality from my PPC. Funny thing is I am an RF Engineer who has done a lot of work with VZW over the years. Kind of wish I had been involved with AGPS and E911 instead of EVDO so I really knew what was at work here.

Re: Verizon GPS not working anymore

Jeez this is nuts.

Sunday - great GPS
Monday - no GPS,
Tuesday - after pulling battery ... pretty decent GPS
Wednesday - pretty decent GPS
Thursday - pretty decent GPS
Friday - ran *228-1 and wound up with no GPS

Friday evening changed to GPSMode=1 and EnableAGPS=0 and now I have great GPS inside and out.

I'll bet there's a janitor at Verizon aGPS HQ inadvertently flipping a switch on/off.
