Re: Tethering question
Not sure of ur question but tethering to the pc can be done through active sync. if you are using vista u gota use window mobile. its a free download from microsoft. caution. they are buggy. phone has to be running if it goes to sleep the connection drops.
the connection will get you acces to your files on the phone and give ur phone access to the internet without using phone carriers data. also i find that i have to remove active sync or win mobile sometimes when it really bugs out. a reload and reboot of both pc and phone restablishes link. i think this will solve ur problem. hit thanks if if this helps.

Re: Tethering question
I'm already sync'd up with active sync. The problem seems to be that either my rom is outdated and I don't have the proper application or option to enable ICS, or I haven't downloaded the right apps to enable it in my current rom. I read all the threads about using wmodem, but there is some conflicting info out there. From what I understand if you have ICS it should be a simple matter of tweaking a few DUN settings to get it working.
Right now when I enable modem link on the phone it goes into modem mode, but the PC only sees a generic serial device and won't load a driver for it. I'm considering cooking a new rom from that latest kitchen and starting from there. |

Re: Tethering question
Did you install the htc modem software on your computer? if not that is your problem. windows can't seem to find the software on it's own so you have to install it manually. below is the file if you don't have it.

Re: Tethering question
Thanks a ton. That was the first hurdle for my tethering problem. I'm pretty sure I need to upgrade my rom seeing that I only have the "modem link" connection option. I'm working on cooking a new rom today and we'll see what happens! Thanks again.
Update: After flashing a new rom I get the ICS option, the phone connects to data, the PC recognizes the phone (thanks again) but the pc won't get an IP address, then the phone times out. Is there a setting I need to change for the connection? I couldn't find a definitive answer about the latest kitchen's ICS setup... Last edited by Jvince; 02-08-2009 at 02:10 PM. |

Re: Tethering question
when i connect my laptop all I do is start the wmodem on the phone and plug it into the laptop. then I create a dialup connection through the network and sharing center then hit dial and it takes about 10 seconds to connect and I am connected for as long as I want. make sure your backlight or the power on your phone isn't set to turn off at a specific time.

Re: Tethering question
Huzzah! I'm not sure what I did, but I got a connection via internet sharing. I don't know if uninstalling and reinstalling the modem on the PC did it, or fooling around with wmodem somehow kicked it in, but it's working. Thanks for all the info everyone, I'll hit those green buttons.
NOW... My house has very bad EV reception (less than 1 bar most times) so I'm guessing that's why I'm getting 400kbps downloads and 100kbps uploads? I have radio 3.37. Is there an easy way to check if I'm on RevA? I plan on trying this out when I get a stronger signal to see if I get a speed increase. Still, yay! |

Re: Tethering question
I have radio 3.42.50 with about 3 bars and my download speed is around 1.4mbps and upload around 400Kbp. not sure if it is the signal or the radio but your radio is revision A.

Re: Tethering question
Yea I did a little more research into the RevA "disabled" vs "enabled". I even checked my data parameters to see if I could sus out what I was getting. I basically had to wait till today when I drove into a better reception area to test it out. 2-3 bars of EV was getting me 1.5/500 speeds, I'm more than happy with that. I do a lot of on site warranty work, so this will be a fantastic backup for those folks who don't have wifi or are still on dial-up (yes they are still out there!). Thanks again for the info, I'm hitting that green button like mad these last few days.
