Best radio to use for dedicated tether phone?

My HTC Touch has just replaced my Mogul as my dedicated tether phone for connecting to the Internet on my laptop from the office. Since I switched though I have not had a good connection. It seems to drop packets for about 5-10 seconds 2-3 times a minute whereas my Mogul didn't with the exact same location.

I flashed the Bell radio last night and did the Sprint DCD cab. Is there a better radio I should be using? I don't care about battery life, GPS, call quality or bluetooth. Just raw clean data transmission.

Suggestions?
