Tomtom 7 Requires Data Connection?

Just wondering if anyone knows why Tomtom 7 requires a data connection to get a gps lock.

I noticed this because I was in the States, down from Canada and I didn't really want to pay huge data roaming but I also needed gps so I had to let it connect. When I had the data shut off with a no data program it couldn't get a GPS lock.

Anyone know how to fix this? Or is it REQUIRED. If it is required, do the other programs (igo8 or garmin) require data?

Re: Tomtom 7 Requires Data Connection?

Here's what I did when I was in the states...

1. Start TT7 normally and wait about 5 seconds to get a lock (keep phone/data ON at this point)
2. Press the END key to minimize TT7
3. Go to your comm manager and turn ON bluetooth, and turn OFF all other connections (i.e. phone/data)
4. Go back to TT7 and it will run great without data connection.

Few things to remember: TT7 doesnt work in flight mode so you must keep at least one connection active (thats why I keep the bluetooth active), TT7 doesnt require data but the Vouge takes really long... like up to 10 minutes to find a lock without using the "assisted"gps (which uses phone/data connection).... this is why I let TT7 use aGPS for the first 5 seconds to get an initial lock and then I turn off the phone/data and the inhouse GPS works just great afterwards... I dont even think you'll be charged for data and if so it will be very minimal... hope this helps!

Re: Tomtom 7 Requires Data Connection?

Had my Touch disconnected from sprint for a huge bill. I used it as a TT7 GPS for about 3 months without a data connection. I should work.
