The connector just might be dirty. Take a toothpick and gently rub the dirt off the pins.

I appreciate all the replies guys! Sadly, I've gone down each of these routes. I've installed Activesync on 3 XP machines, and the Vista version of ActiveSync (The name escapes me at the moment), and all three show the same symptoms. I've completed ruled out ActiveSync at this point, and it's most likely rom (Doubtful) or hardware (Most Sensible at this point).

What I need to do is to rule the ROM part out, which I'm pretty sure it's not, but would be nice if I could install it via an SDCard just to rule that part out...At this point I'm going to see if I can get a replacement device.

Reaing your post was like looking in a mirror. I've also decided that the problem is that the pins on the phone have worn or bent and are no longer connecting properly to the cable.

After tearing my hair out for a couple weeks and blaming (coincidentaly) OMJ's rom I discovered that one of the six or so mini-usb cables that I have will work..most of the time.

I'd suggest that you try a couple more if you have them handy.

Even if the port is messed up fo good, you can flash roms using an sd card (not sdhc! - I use a 1GB). Just put the nbh file in the root directory of a fat32 formatted card and name it VOGUIMG.nbh

Then enter bootloader (Camera+Power+poking+soft reset) to get the tri-colored screen and follow the directions to flash the new rom.

Good luck!

Tried three cables :( The one from my dock, the one that came with the phone (With the crazy adaptor for the ugly headphones), and another guys from work. In all cases, the phone charges, but that's about it.

Think i'll try to do the toothpick trick, I've heard it a few times. However I have a leather case for it, and it would be pretty hard for it to get dirty. I take pretty good care of my gadgets, but at this point I'll try anything.

Now, getting back to the flashing roms. You say not sdhc...I have a 4GB, but it's a Micro SDCH....Maybe I should try to find a smaller one? When I entered the tri-colored screen, I see:

VOGU100 MFG
SPL-2.31.CoKe
CPLD-3

Funny thing is, when I have it plugged in, it says USB. What a tease ](*,)

Guess I'll try to find a 1GB one and see if that works instead.

Cheers!

i had the same problem with my phn and tried 2 diff cables but for my situation it was not the cord or program activsynce which i hate by the way it turned out the phn was defective so i had to take it to sprint they did exchange it out since i was under the 1 year warrenty and they gave me another phn with same dam problem so i had to exchange that one 2 so i think it just with pins inside the phn may be damage but hopefully you still have warrenty reload orginal rom and send that thing back

Re: HTC Touch - USB will charge, but will not connect over ActiveSync

Hey guys,

Just wanted to give you an update. Based on earlier information, I was able to flash to a stock Bell rom using a 512MB MicroSD. Thank you! I couldn't get it to work on my 4GB, and I guess that's because of it being a different type of card.

I told the folks at our Bell World store, and they put in a replacement. I got my new phone, and now ActiveSync will work.

I tried to clean it up as much as I could, however still had no work. It took a hardware replacement to get this fixed.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their responses and help on this one.

Cheers,
Joey

Have had the same problem for a long time, found the problem. The pin in the middle of my usb port on the phone was stuck. Used a needle and pushed a little on it. After that the phone was recognised by Active Sync.

Background: The phone charged through usb but was never found as a device.
Tried several cables, softreset, hardreset and all the different settings as suggested all over the web for this problem.

So remember to check the usbport on the phone..And thx for a good thread.
