After Flashing...

hi.
lost my phone, got a brand new one thank god for insurance.
i flashed my phone a long time ago with a rom from OMJ.
gps was super slow and reading around the forum i'm guessing gps now works with agps so it's actually usable maybe...i hope.
i've flashed before. that's all cool.

so before i remember it was a big pain in the rear to call verizon to activate my phone. it wouldn't activate using the automated system and i needed a higher level technician to do it remotely. what made (and would make still) this process really annoying is that my cell phone is my only phone at home. therefore the technician said he'd call me back after trying some things and if i didn't hear, call him back in 10 min. so he could try something else. wow. yes it was annoying but he did get it.

so my question.
has there been any advances or changes in roms or verizon's systems so that activating a flashed phone doesn't require that level of assistance from verizon?

thanks.

Re: After Flashing...

I am not really sure if this is possible because I haven't tried it and am a newbie, but I know after flashing I did a hard reset and my phone required reactivations. I didn't want to deal with vzw so I wrote my saved info from earlier agps upgrades using qpst and it worked like a charm. No activation needed.

Some of you more advanced guys may be able to tell me if this was just a fluke or will this actually work.

Re: After Flashing...

what's the info to take note of before flashing? i remember something about being able to enter in a number and it let you set all sorts of things on the phone that sounded like a good way to either screw things up or play some dirty tricks with esn numbers and such.

so to be clear here i guess...you didn't have to call verizon and physically talk to a real life person in order to flash your phone and have it working?

No you don't call Verizon to flash your phone maybe too activate, but not to flash...Read this thread and become familiar with it before you decide to flash:http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=17473

Also a flashed phone can be activated as long as the dialer is ## friendly, but it is recommended that your device be activated before flashing just in case you do have issues...

Re: After Flashing...

guess i wasn't clear there either =)
no i know you dont call (AND talk to a human) to flash your phone i meant after flashing to re-activate it again.

i just remember it being a pain last time and was curious if that problem went away.

i mean it even seems as if it doesn't happen to everyone by the sounds of it because i would think everyone would be like "oh yea, that pain in the butt part where i had to talk to customer service and they said dial the number...which i did, but did again to apease them before they put me on with a higher level technician who told me the same thing then re-activated on their end"

ring any bells?? am i like one of 5 people who had to do this? haha
maybe it's changed and it's easy now.?

I had to do this and when I insurance my phone it happened again when I did a new rom and radio. Flash your phone, then go to your verizon website, login and change the phone to some other ESN (make sure the device has the same features data.. ect or mms or you will loose the featuress from your account, I used my old 6700) device and give it 10 minutes. Then change it back and wait 10 minutes then after you have flashed the rom dial *228 from your phone and program it... walla... Everything works again.

Re: After Flashing...

I can only speek from my experience but the first time I did a hard reset on my phone I needed to call and get a new "key". I had done a hard reset and multiple Flashes since then and never had to call again.
