Plzzzzz Help!!!!!

I have an alltel htc touch vogue that i have unlocked and put sprint rom on. I just changed to sprint and when i called sprint to do a device swap they asked for my vogue dec esn #. I gave it to them and of course they said it was not registered in their system and it could not be used. Is this true or is their a way around it. I really love my touch and dont want to have to buy another.
