May be ditching my Vogue

Ever since I bought it it had the problem where the outgoing POP mail would just stop working and reqire a new account to be set up. After no s/w upgrades addressed this I finally took it to the sprint store. Of course they had NEVER heard of this an offered to get me a new phone under warranty. So I picked up the new Vogue the other day. Right off I noticed the screen had a dark spot about 2/3 from the bottom. After a day or so I noticed the earpiece sounded like crap, like it was a broken speaker. Did some testing with different phones calling me, and it's definitely messed up, sounds buzzy like when you turn it up too loud but the volume is set at below half. Also, when I finally peeled the protective plasic from teh camera I noticed that the ruberized coating on the back had started to peel badly.

So I went back in. They will order me another one (I realize they are refurbished). If this one has problems I guess I will go up the chain with Sprint customer service and try to get a different brand/model phone. I just want a phone that works and is not falling apart. For the $300 + renewal of contract I think I'm entitled to at least that much.

Re: May be ditching my Vogue

If you go through 3 or 4 refurb replacements that have problems, they will usually - but not always - upgrade your phone. That is how I got a treo 700 for a treo 650, a Mogul for an old school ppc-6600, and recently a Touch Pro for a 6700. Just make sure they are legit problems and be really polite to the rep you are talking to. I always play the "I just want a phone that works, but dont want to take a step backwards" approach. More than likely, if you keep havng problems they will bump you to a refurb Diamond.

That's what I'm hoping for.

Did you have to deal with Sprint customer service, or did you work it out with the guys at a sprint dealer store? I'd much rather work with the store than some unknown guy on the phone.

Re: May be ditching my Vogue

Hello Ladies and Gents...
I have a question as well but a statement first. Not similar to the previous question but, hopefully I can get an honest answer here. I currently have an htc/sprint touch which I've had for a year now. During this time, I've had fun tweaking and modding my touch to my likings and even encountered some bumps in the road with it. Now I'm at the point where I'm just tired of making all these changes. I now have my eye on the iphone 3g. I know its not the perfect phone either, but I like it, my friend have one and I try to play around with it as much as I can if he lets me. So my question is... Would I be making a big mistake to drop my touch for the iphone 3g? Any feedback is greatly appreciated and welcomed. There's all sorts of tweaks to make the touch and other phones look like the iphone.. wouldn't it be easier just go out and buy the iphone?? Ok.. that's two questions... my bad.

you will soon see if you get the iphone that it's not a pocket pc and you will not be able to add much to it without buying from the app store.plus you can't flash any of the cool roms that our chefs have cooked up.

Exactly right the iPhone is for those who enjoy less expression...

Re: May be ditching my Vogue

Any last word on this? I'm on the 3rd phone now, it works great except I only got 3 emails out before it stopped working. I will stop by the Sprint store tonight and raise hell. What is the purpose of a wireless mobile computer that will not send emails?

Re: May be ditching my Vogue

Dude, Pop3 is dead. Long live IMAP!!!

Just kidding. Haven't tried Pop3 email as all of mine are IMAP, but I can see how this would be frustrating. Bumping up to a Diamond may not fix the problem, though, as both phones are running WM6.1. You have upgraded the ROM, right?

Re: May be ditching my Vogue

Ya, it's upgraded.

I took it to the store and suddenly the POP3 mail works. It wasn't working all afternoon long.

Correct me if I'm wrong here; it's incoming mail that is POP3 or IMAP, and the outgoing is always SMTP? Outgoing is the only one I have problems with.
