Re: celio redfly rom
After messing around with a REDFLY for a few days my advice would be to stick with the stock Sprint rom for now. At least until Celio releases an official software/firmware package for the Touch Diamond. And at that point I think I'm running out to buy a Diamond so I can use the WiFi with my REDFLY.
I've been using custom roms on my Sprint Touch since day one, a long time ago. Most recently I've been trying the various Diamond roms and they are very good. So my first attempt was just to plug the REDFLY in and try it with the custom rom and the official REDFLY Touch software (for Windows 6.1). It kinda worked, but was unreliable. Then I downloaded the beta software that Celio has for the Diamond. That didn't work any better. By that time I really, really wanted to see the REDFLY working, so I installed a stock rom on the phone and the official Touch software. Have to say I couldn't be happier. The REDFLY has been almost flawless - there have been a couple of odd things happen, but that could be all the experimenting I've been doing. Not a single serious problem I can definitively blame on the REDFLY. Probably the most important thing I learned so far is that you will want a better Web browser. Nothing frustrated me more than the crummy mobile Internet Explorer now that my phone has a real size screen. Opera 9.5 isn't supported on the REDFLY yet, but get yourself a copy of Iris from Torch Mobile. (http://www.torchmobile.com/) The beta 3 version was recently released and it works great on the REDFLY. It's still beta software so don't browse too long without restarting it. But the experience is much more rewarding than using IE. You can see my preliminary REDFLY review here: http://rstoeber.com/blog/2008/12/18/...inal-review-1/ I will update that as I learn more. Let us know how you like the REDFLY and what you use it for. Last edited by pcskibum; 12-23-2008 at 07:17 PM. |
