Re: HTC Touch and GPS Problems
first try downloading an application that does not rely on internet for GPS, and go to an open area and see if you get a lock. if you dont after 3-5 minutes or at all then you cannot use the GPS on the phone, you have not installed the correct rom to enable the GPS unit or something in your settings is wrong.

Re: HTC Touch and GPS Problems
You read USCCs policy on the GPS, but have to contacted their customer service to see if they can help with the issue. To me it sounds like unless you subscribe to easy edge it's not going to happen.

Re: HTC Touch and GPS Problems
I did contact U.S. Cellular and they stated that easyedge was not needed for third party application, so at least that is a plus. I'll give the internetless application idea a try. Any suggestions on apps that do not rely on the internet?

Re: HTC Touch and GPS Problems
The stock USCC rom doesn't have a new enough radio version to allow on-board gps functionality. I have the vogue from uscc. Just flashed the rom last night. I have talked to a regional network tech and he didn't know when an official rom update would be avaliable. (he tried to find out) I didn't want to wait so I just flashed a custom rom and radio version.
It's not hard to flash it, but from reading you posts it sounds like it may be more than you want to take on. Go into the "upgrade" subforum to read up on flashing. |

Re: HTC Touch and GPS Problems
I just got my Touch from US Cellular and would also like to enable the GPS on my unit. I know there is the updated ROM for Alltel which enables the GPS, but I don't want to brick my new phone. Has anyone been able to get the GPS working on their US Cellular Touch? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Stephen |
