GPS/Navigation for Alltel HTC

I have been using Google Maps and had a free 30 day service through Alltel Navigation. However, that 30 day trial offer is up and now Google Maps will not work without it.

Last night I downloaded GPSToday or something like that. Is is good for certain featurs, but does not have driving directions and some features that Google maps had.

Any suggestions on what will work for free?

Why doesnt Google work? Is it because the 30 day trial was your actual data service? If so you are still going to need a data plan, no matter what app you decide on, free or not free.

No, i have the unlimited data plan. Not sure why the gps part of google maps will not work without alltel navigation. I had this problem before, but did a hard reset and added alltel nav again for another 30 day trial offer and it worked fine. I just do not want to keep doing that, every 30 days.

the google maps part works just fine, it is the GPS part that does not work without the alltel navigation.

You need to enable the GPS on your phone.

I have the the same phone with Alltel and my GPS is fine and I don't pay a thing for it.

I have the Location set to "On" and under GPS, I have "Com4" checked and "Manage GPS automatically".

Anything else i need to do?

I ran shadow-tech's fix for my GPS and it's worked fine.

Edit: I have also flashed to Alltel's latest official ROM which upgrades the radio to 3.42, then loaded the ConFlip ROM before doing the Shadow-tech fix.

Checkout AMazeGPS its on here somewhere don't have time to search right now but maybe you do as long as GPS is enabled everything will be fine by the way its freeware...

Once the GPS is working fully you can use several programs, Googlemaps, Live Search and GPSToday.

once you get gps turned on, amAze is a good free gps app. also. http://www.amazegps.com/welcome.php

That is a very cool app.

There are some things I like about GPS Today, but amaze is really nice.
