New xv6900 and Pocket PC noob

OK, pocket PC noob and smart phone Noob here .
I just got a verizon xv6900, which I have found out is similar to the Sprint Touch. I finally figured it was time to get a phone that was more then just a phone, so I could drop my palm pilot, and maybe cancel my data card plan for my laptop. Anyway, what I want to do is change things around with custom ROMS. BUT once I do this how do I go back to the Verizon ROM, just in case? I have not seen a ROM for the Verizon model xv6900. Some of the things I would like to be able to do is use the Bluetooth connection to connect to the web, while at home, or where BT connections exist. I would also like to 'share' the internet connection from the xv9600, so my laptop can access the net through the BT card on the laptop as well. So sometimes the xv9600 will be the internet connection, and sometimes it will use a different source for the internet, all depends on where I am. I would also like to enable the GPS, which I hear needs a new ROM to be flashed. I already have Resco registry editor, and PIMbackup installed, spend a considerable number of hours this weekend reading, and now I just need a good starting point. Do I unlock with coke, or some other utility, what about QPST. I have been with Verizon for better then 10 years, and finally wanted a phone that had some features, but as usual verizon dumbed down and crippled the phone... help....

Re: New xv6900 and Pocket PC noob

Thanks, I have read, and I am still reading...... So much to do

Anyway.... quick question for anyone with a verizon xv6900, on verizon network. When the xv6900's screen is off, I assume the PC portion of the phone is sleeping, but why does it take 3-4 rings, from the person calling me's point of view. before my phone 'wakes up' and starts ringing. I have confirmed this by calling the phone, and it does take 2-4 rings to get the scren to turn on, and start ringing. Anyway to fix this??

Re: New xv6900 and Pocket PC noob

i noticed that too but i was thinking it was just the delay to go from the phone your dialing from to the one that is receiving. i don't think it is a delay on the receiving phone. many moons ago you had to wait while the network located your party and you would get voice telling that it was searching for the person and could here some clicking as it searched. i think its the same thing here where you dial, hear a ring but the signal is off in space finding its way back to the receiving phone.

Re: New xv6900 and Pocket PC noob

Maybe on other networks, but on my other phone, and Verizon (which is what I am on now), it rang maybe once beefore the recieving phone rang. If my vx6900 has the screen off it takes up to 4 rings on the caller's phone before I get 1 ring. My family and friends want me to trash this new phone cause they can't get me on the phone. I am about to go back to verizon and see if there is an update for the phone. Yes I know about the leaked ROM, and I might just wait till that gets sorted out, and I will flash it myself. I bought the phone for the PDA and Win Mobile aspect, but those are secondary to the primary purpose of being a phone. If it sucks as a phone, it sucks all around. I haven't given up on this yet!

Re: New xv6900 and Pocket PC noob

I had this Issue when i had the Stock rom on my vx6900. ive updated to a clean rom from Dette and it seems to be down to 1 or 2 rings from the person calling for my phone to wake up and ring.

Re: New xv6900 and Pocket PC noob

I think you can lower the Slot Cycle Index to reduce the amount of time it takes for the phone to ring. The Slot Cycle Index controls how often the phone polls the cellular network for an incoming call. The trade-off is that more frequently polling will reduce battery life somewhat. More info & instructions here:

Holpe this helps.

I used Dettes Clean Verizon Rom. Here is a link to it. its a clean rom so you dont get alot of extras. i.e Games but those can be added later.
