Xv6900 6.1???

I've read HOURS and HOURS trying to find the best update ROM for my VZW XV6900. I know there has been a lot of talk regarding certain cooked ROM's that include GPS, and I've read a lot about different radios and what does and doesn't work, plus several cooked versions that "this or that" is missing.

I really have no need for GPS. That said, what is the best/stablist (I just made up a word ) ROM to run? I can, but would kind of prefer not to reload applications one by one. I use all the MS Office programs daily.

Any suggestions?

I think you'll find that everyone had their own opinion. I've tried almost every one of the cooked ROMs and think the Whosdaman's TF2D with the aGPS hack from XDA is my favorite. I'm a big fan of TF2D though so my opinion is heavily based on that. His ROM is extreamly stable, very fast, and for money has a good mix of applications without being too bloated.

Here's my quick run down of the other popular cooked ROMs. I hope this helps you.

OMJ's ROMs are also very stable although I have not tried his TF2D ROM b/c I'm so happy with Whosdaman's. I did run his 3.03 ROM for several weeks with no problem.

DHarvy's Black Vista actually blew up on me after about 4 weeks. That's not to say the ROM has stability issues b/c I know it's been out there a while and many people seem to like it. That was just my personal experience. I wasn't a big fan of the theme either, but again I like the Diamond look and feel.

Nextvision's Throttle ROM was probabaly my second favorite. This one is pretty loaded with apps and has the Diamond look and feel, but I found Throttle Launcher to be buggy. I like TF2D much better. I think Next is working on a TF2D ROM, but it's still beta.

Re: Xv6900 6.1???

I still use the oem rom 6.0. I have found a limitless supply of apps to run plus a bunch of different themes so, so far i have not been bored. i use a new theme every week. now trying the manila 2d theme. loved the sb2 theme with a bunch of diff skins. the iphone skin by godzson is really nice in the sb2 shell. sb2 is a free trial for 15 days. i dont use gps either although some of the new aps for gps are really cool. i am too hestant to flash from the oem rom yet and so far have not needed to.

Okay, where do I find this ROM and the instructions to DL/install it?

I did a ROM conversion on my old XV6700 about a year ago, and it was FANTASTIC... I think it was by Colonel? Instructions were a cinch.

I'm very technical but really don't know much about Windows Mobile and devices, save that I've used such devices all day every day for the past 2+ years. Failsafe directions are certainly a plus for me! Can never be too careful, you know?

Re: Xv6900 6.1???

I, too, have used several roms. The one I like best at this moment is Dette's manila 2d. First, somehow he has made a hugh amount of rom space available on my xv6900 - over 100,000. Second, no matter what I do, I do not have to hard reset. It seems a soft reset clears any problems up. It is really terrific. I also am technically oriented but no expert on pocket pcs. I just love them I have had an xv6700, xv6800 and now xv6900. They get better every time. I do wish Mr. or Mrs. Dette had left the Voip stuff in his kitchen. I'm going to mention it to him. I can't use Skype and would like to. I was unhappy with the built in GPS so, for $45 I bought a blue tooth external GPS. It worked (works) wonderfully. However, I have now tuned the internal GPS with instructions here and I don't have to use the blue tooth anymore.
Long live PPCGeeks and xm_developers. I am retired and approaching 100, I guess we all are, and this stuff keeps me busy ALL Day.
