Verizon VX6900 GPS

Hey all,
Not sure how newbies will have clear instructions to upgrade their phones as i tried to find a link to send to my friend here but didnt see it after searching for 'consolidated' on search page. that thread get pulled down?

Plus negaman moved the verizon/gps install thread to his site ppchaven (well he says he did in the first post in that thread, but all his instructions dont seem to be on his site). I'd rather keep it 'in house' for our community.

I put this up and was hoping to convert it to a thread here for just verizon users.

Thanks!

Re: whatever happened to Consolidated A thread?

arianhojat, why don't you take that and place it in your signature because not many people have a lot to say about Verizon or take the time to write up or work up something like this.

This is a very good link for anyone just starting out with a Verizon XV6900 aka HTC Vogue or Touch. Just a thought but how about changing the title of this post to something like "VERIZON XV6900, HTC VOGUE AKA TOUCH-HOW TO FOR GPS, REV. A, & GPS"

Re: whatever happened to Consolidated A thread?

Hey mohebbo...
I cant change the title of already started thread. i was going to make a new thread for verizon here as the other one seems to be dead, but i wasnt sure if the instructions had a missing step as i already did the 'dangerous' steps of upgrading to new radio long ago. I was hoping someone could go through them and let me know if i should add something.
Thanks,
Arian

Re: Verizon VX6900 GPS

This is my first post so hopefully it's in the right spot and such. First thank you to arianhojat for that link. Because of that I finally figured out how to get a good ROM on my phone.

I still don't have GPS working. The only difference I had from the tutorial here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index...VerizonAGPSFix
is that in qpst my phone had the "SURF7500" under com5 instead of com4. But I just thought switching to com5 in the External GPS settings would do it . . . but it doesn't.

Should I also set my HKEY_LM/Software/HTC/SUPL AGPS
GPSMode to 5 instead of 4?
I didn't want to just try that in case that wasn't the same thing.

Or is there a newer radio i should upgrade to?

I have the vx6900
Carrier: Verizon
ROM version: 3.09.666.1 - OMJ clean non-M2D
ROM date: 08/04/08
Radio Version: 3.42.50

thanks

Re: Verizon VX6900 GPS

I finally got gps to work. The issue wasn't com ports at all. I think I must have let customizations run when they shouldn't have. I followed instructions based on this post:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=58104
and now it works great.

Re: Verizon VX6900 GPS

I have been trying to get the TOMTOM NAV 6 to work for over a week now. I figured it out for the most part. My phone came with WM6 which I don't believe that radio was capable of GPS.

1. Unlocked my phone with 2.31
2. Flashed the stock Verizon rom 3.14.605.1 radio 3.37.78
3. DID NOT let customizations run

I have tried several things from here with little success.

4. Applied the registry settings form post #1
5. Applied this fix.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=363464

With this fix I get a GPS lock within a minute. However every time the phone shuts off I have to soft reset. I even have to soft reset if I am on a phone call if the screen turns off. If someone could help me out with this issue I would appreciate it.

Re: Verizon VX6900 GPS

I was in the same situation. I used the 6.1 verizon update, did the Valhalla GPS, and did all the registry tweaks. Mine works flawlessly. I did allow the customizations to run because this is still a Verizon Rom. I am a still learning, but for the most part, my phone works very well now. FOr the GPS, I am able to use Live Search, Google Maps, Google Navigator and Amazegps. For some reason, the lock is fastest on Google navigator. Amaze is a nice n/c program. The maps are a bit funky, but i like it. Google maps is the easiest to find a location with.
