will gps work without sprint service

at the end of November I may be leaving sprint (tear tear) but I want to know will the gps on my touch still work without sprint service because I have notice that since I update to the new official sprint rom every time I use the gps it dial up first even though I use a party gps program.

thats because your gps works off of a data connection, so no it will not work without service because you will no longer have a data connection to use...

If you get the maps loaded on your SD card you can use GPS.
There is a thread on here about what GPS apps have preloaded maps. I THINK it was IGo, TomTom and a few more.

how can you find your position when it is found off of a triangulation of towers in order to do this you do need data/service if the maps are downloaded maybe you can view the maps but, you will not be able to find your location...Well if tom-tom does work like you there is no doubt that the data connection will still be needed.

Its not found off the towers, the Sprint Touch has true GPS.

It has data assisted GPA. With maps on SD, you still have no location. GPA needs data connection. \thread

Do you mean aGPS?

The Sprint Touch has GPS not aGPS.
aGPS you do need towers for it to work.

it has true GPS so you don't need a data connection, but i've found that getting locks are extremely difficult without a data connection. i would recommend just getting a bluetooth gps receiver to connect to your phone if you're gonna be in an area without service.

x2. used it in honduras but took a long while to get a connection and even that wasn't a great one...

You do not need a data connection as the Touch and the Mogule both have true GPS but also offer aGPS when able to use it.
