XV6900 data usage charge w/o data plan

Hi. I'm trying to get XV6900 from verizon without data plan since this one seems to be the only smart phone that doesn't REQUIRE MANDATORY DATA PLAN as of now. (although it has pay per KB) So, I have a little question. It seems that xv6900 has weather update function which i don't really need along with any other internet or email feature. I only need this device for personal organizer and simple phone function. Is there anyway to block weather automatic update feature? or even block all data usage of this phone at all? Please let me know. If i get charged for data plan, i'd rather get samsung omnia or some other phone. Thank you in advance.
