XV6900 data usage charge w/o data plan
 

Hi. I'm trying to get XV6900 from verizon without data plan since this one seems to be the only smart phone that doesn't REQUIRE MANDATORY DATA PLAN as of now. (although it has pay per KB) So, I have a little question. It seems that xv6900 has weather update function which i don't really need along with any other internet or email feature. I only need this device for personal organizer and simple phone function. Is there anyway to block weather automatic update feature? or even block all data usage of this phone at all? Please let me know. If i get charged for data plan, i'd rather get samsung omnia or some other phone. Thank you in advance.

Yeah there is, as I am using the exact setup that you are looking for pretty much. Basically I have a data block placed on my cell number and also set it up with a pay per KB plan. Now that alone will solve your problem. But if you just want to turn off the weather function, just dont ever set it up with a location and it will never retrieve any data. :mrgreen:

Thank you so much for your reply! now that alone tells me to buy this device right away~! btw, can you be more specific about how to block data ?

Call vzw and ask for a "data block".

Another way is to open the connection settings on the device and enter a password (check the "save password" box), being as the correct password is no password, putting anything in the password field will make it so you will not connect.

One advantage of the second way is, if you would like to connect for some reason, when the connection pops up simply delete the incorrect password and click connect.

Be warned that the pay per use plan is rediculously expensive.
