I used to listen to music through the pda and there was an app to turn the screen off but doesn't put the pda in standby. You can turn off automatic standby in the power settings.

I am very interested in this app, currently I use accutracking but i have to pay a monthly fee. One of the functions in there that i think is very important is if you could save the waypoints when it detects no tower signal then sends the saved waypoints when the signal comes back.
