Sprint HTC Standby button messed up

hey i have an HTC Touch from sprint and there is this button at the top that turns screen on and off and turns power on and off. I know the button works because it will turn phone on and off and turn screen off, but it wont turn the screen back on. Can anyone help me figure out what the problem is?

Does it do it as soon as you turn the screen off, or is it turn the screen off wait a while then it won't come back on?
If it's the later then you're most likely getting the stand by bug and haven't updated to 6.1
If it's the former then you could always have a repair center check it out but in most cases that's not a hardware issue if it turns the phone back on, just will not resume out of standby.

everything works except turning screen back on, although sometimes it will turn back on if i hit it right after i turn it off.... sometimes lol. so i need to update to 6.1? How do i do that?

Download the update and follow the directions.
This update WILL erase all information from the phone. So back up your stuff first, contacts,calendar and anything not on the storage card is erased.
Also make sure storage card encryption is off, it's under start ->settings -> system tab -> encryption.
