Re: Questionable Programs, are they Warez or Not?
I don't know how to word this correctly.
The software itself is not warez. The illegal part is the key generator or the crack to make it so that you don't need to purchase the software. Asking for warez is an instant ban. From Urbandictionary.com: WAREZ a term used by software pirates use to describe a cracked game or application that is made available over the Internet, usually via FTP/IRC/P2P, often the pirate will make use of a site with lax security. Widely used in cracker subcultures to denote cracked version of commercial software, that is versions from which copy-protection has been stripped. Hackers recognize this term but don't use it themselves. The WAREZ mentality discussed in this article connotes the mindset of the hackers/crackers who make this copyrighted media available.

That's right Saumaun. If anyone asks about how to get paid software for free, it's a 1-way ticket to Bansville.

Re: Questionable Programs, are they Warez or Not?
yeah, well maybe you could rephrase the question. As in if we see software floating around on these forums are their programs that we can instantly identify as being warez and not free or a version that is legal to distribute for free?
Either programs that have been questioned and discussed and found not right to distribute OR programs that most people know are warez but want the program anyways. Create a list of red flag programs. i have a question, why is it such a strict no tolerance for warez? Is it because the site could get in trouble potentially if anything was found?

And then you have to ask questions about the legality of ripping a rom from a device and essentially reverse engineering it. The questions have all been asked b4 and it's probably best left alone, as in see no evil, hear no evil just my $.02 woohoo 100th post and they weren't all just drivel..... |

Re: Questionable Programs, are they Warez or Not?
If you don't have a credit card bill, bundle of shrinkwrap, or email receipt from the vendor, *and* the app is not shareware or freeware or trialware... then it's rip-off-ware.
All the map-based GPS navigation apps are grayware at best - if they shipped on some rom, then some people think you can rip em and burn em into other roms. Some people don't think that. No matter that question, not paying for the maps themselves is way over into "I stole it" land. |

Re: Questionable Programs, are they Warez or Not?
Yeah i mean upgrading to Wm6.1 from 6 or to 6 from 5 seems like a big thing in itself, depending how you look at it... you could say its like going to Sp2 from Sp1 or you could say its like going to Vista from XP (or at least XP home to XP Pro)
yeah this is probably best left alone its too confusing Last edited by buddhatikkigod; 08-21-2008 at 10:20 PM. |
