Slow Speed on revA - Non local IP address using Speed test for revA test
Hi,
Im with BELL and just upgraded from stock with the BELL ROM a week ago with rev A...I've never actually tested the speed until now and i noticed a VERY slow speed compared to others..I was getting about 400 kbps up and down... on speakeasy.net Today tried again and 445kbps up and 200 down on speedtest.net. All of them using a server in the EAST or closest to Montreal where I am. Also I did the test using PDANET with an IE on my laptop... The weird thing is that when i did a reverse IP look up, it showed that I am somewhere in ONTARIO near Toronto?!?! Why is it dialing an ISP so far from Montreal? May be this will explain my slow speed...but then again when I tried using speedtest and test download on a server at Brandon , ON, is get slightly better results but nothing compared to the 1000 kbps that most of you are getting Also while checking the ##778# , i cannot locate the RevA enabled or Disabled switch in the data parameters... can anyone from BELL who is having great speed check this param... or may be i am missing something! can anyone from bell try this out: 1. Test speedtest.net using ICS or PDANET on your laptop. 2. Note the ping time and the local server they suggest to you....mine was Brandon the closest 3. check whatismyip.com and paste the IP in this http://www.geobytes.com/IpLocator.htm?GetLocation to find where you are located. 4. Let me know what your speed is and if you have revA as well? Thanks Last edited by QkSi1ver; 08-19-2008 at 04:52 PM. |

Like i said on hofo, everyone routes there.
And two things that might relate to your speed issues. 1.Reception 2.others using the tower you are connected to. If you are in certain areas, the speed can drop off if the towers over congested. |

One thing you can try. Check your HA (Home Agent). Do a ##778# to get into your PST. Go to edit. You will need your SPC. Mostlikely it is 000000. Goto edit. The bottem left you will see the soft button say "View Info". Select it amd then select "M.IP Settings". Look at what it says for "Active User Profile Index". With sprint it says 1. So if it says 1, then goto "view info" and select "M.IP Customer Profile1". You will see a Primary and Secondary HA ip addresses. Write those down. The best one should be 255.255.255.255 for your primary. That one will Select the closest one automatically. If your HA is set to a Home Agent in Ontario, then all of your traffic is going to go through there.
For more info on HA's checkout http://www.evdoforums.com/thread2001.html |

Re: Slow Speed on revA - Non local IP address using Speed test for revA test
I have 2 in the Active User Profile Index...
checking all the various profiles including the Default Profile... they all list 255.255.255.255 as primary HA and 0.0.0.0 as Secondary HA... Profile 1 and 2 are enabled, the rest are disabled... which of those 2 should i check? Also, how do i find out about a HA in Montreal? Thanks |
