So I wanna build a car mount (Mini USB wiring)

Hey all,

So I've decided to attempt to build a custom car mount, the basic idea is to wire the usb to both charge the device, and to connect it to some exteral speakers glued to the mount to make the directions from Garmin Mobile XT loud enough for me to hear.

Does anyone know if it is possible to both charge the device and recieve audio? And if so is anyone willing to share the wiring diagram for this?

Thanks a ton

Depend how you want to setup everything. Easiest way to do this is to use a car charger to charge the phone and the included usb to headset adapter. The adapter would then go into the aux input for your headunit.

If you want to use just the USB wire and charge the unit as well as get sound from it, then you will probably have to write a program to do that.

Re: So I wanna build a car mount (Mini USB wiring)

How about you just buy one?

http://www.accessorypost.com/touchcarkit.html
(Whom I ordered from)

or:

http://www.wirelessground.com/touchcarmount.html

It powers the touch and provides a speakerphone....also a 2.5 mm audio out jack to go into my stereo.

3 issues:

1. The audio out seems to be audio limited to protect the small handsfree speaker - read little bass output

2. The cradle must be lifted of of the mounting arm in one hand and then insert the phone with the other (not a big deal, just hang it on the arm when done - when it was new 1/2 the time the insertion would cause a soft reset on the phone - though it has been a long time since it has done it now - I use it every day.

3. Will not work with any extended battery.

You can cut the adapter that came with your phone and extended with a small vga cable by soldering all 11 wires on each end. I ran mine through the glove box from behind the stereo up to my rear view mirror.

How loud is the speaker; is it loud enough to be heard while driving on the freeway with the windows down?

Re: So I wanna build a car mount (Mini USB wiring)

how bout buying a motorola T505 bluetooth fm transmitter? its wireless and send everything through your car speakers! even your phonecalls! crystal clear for me.

Best investment i've made next to an extended battery.

Depends....it is not a 50 watt car radio....I would say you will have no problems with the windows up, or slightly down.....may even be ok all the way down - until you drive right next to a Semi or loud car.

The nice thing is you can use the Jack on the side of the speaker (2.5 mm) to route audio into your Car radio (idf you have an input).

Thanks for the reply. Too bad my current stereo doesn't have a mini jack anymore as I would just use that but it only accepts USB drives.

I'm going to check out the transmitter that syanni85 suggested too.
