Noob question about flashing - How to unlock updated phone?

I got my sprint htc touch a few days ago and immediately updated to WM6.1 from here: http://www.htc.com/us/faq_detail.aspx?p_id=76&act=sd .

but now i cant figure out how to be able to use custom roms. it seems like most directions are written before the official update rom from sprint was released.

If i understand correctly, i need to unlock the phone first, but it says:

2. Hold the power button and camera button together and insert your stylus into the soft-reset hole on the bottom of the phone. It should display an SPL of 0.36. If it does, continue to step 3.

Mine says 2.xx so i dont know how i should go about continuing.
