PDAnet: Tethering Hack Necessary?

I've been tethering using PDAnet for a few months now. I'm on Sprint..no PAM plan, but unlimited data. I'm running PDAnet 2.0 and a ROM from the 20270 kitchen. I haven't done any of these tethering hacks everyone talks about...should I be worried about seeing my bill?

Re: PDAnet: Tethering Hack Necessary?

i think the hacks are to use internet connection sharing to tether. using pdanet is an alternative to this. i'm not completely sure, but i believe pdanet has features to make it look like it's your phone using the data, not a computer, so it is pretty safe. i would just not use too much data or you might raise flags for the amount of bandwidth you used.

Re: PDAnet: Tethering Hack Necessary?

Yeppers, PDANet makes it appear as though the data was used by your phone. But Sprint is getting smarter as they get more familiar with this technology stuff. I'm not sure where they are on the 5gb cap, but they are measuring data sent/received to the handset.

so what, exactly, does that 5gb cap apply to? or more importantly, should I be worried about my upcoming bills (I've definitely tethered over 5gb this month)?
i read so much mixed information about that 5gb cap i got tired of sifting through it all.

5GB tethering? Geez guys its this kind of outright abuse that ruins it for everybody. It's not a freaking dedicated replacement for all your internet downloading. It should be more of a subliment to use when on the go and need to get online for a little bit. WTF people?

i agree .. 5gb is very excessive, and could ruin it for all of us that just like it as an occasional on the go connection

Well if someone wants to pay the bill for a monthly comcast cable internet connection then the problem is solved

I recently moved, and cannot yet afford to pay for broadband internet. I'm a starving student, gimme a break!

Flash with NFSFAN's you will find you will NOT need PDANET.

Thinking about it...What sparked all that talk? Because "The Bubble" said phone as modem? And the fix was to make the bubble say something esle??? I don't know, but if sprint see's abnormally high data usage, or if they want to....They can just wake up one day and charge you for it.

Re: PDAnet: Tethering Hack Necessary?

Hey Im not saying don't use it but use some descretion about it and do't ruin it for everyone else because YOU can't afford comcast. Besides it's better to preserve what we have by cutting back then having them cut you back and taking you out of the equation. If not then what would you do... you will have no options at all because you weren't smart about it.
