gps speedo

so i just upgraded my ROM [just found out about it yesterday]
and i see it finally allows us Sprint users to hit that GPS
woo
anyways, i was trying to find a good [free] speedometer app
i found GPS Speedo, love the way it looks, but i cant get it to work
like i hit the GPS(off) button and try to turn it on, but it says "cant open port, port may already be in use"
even when i first turn on my phone.
so i went into tools, then COM and tryed messin around with them, [i have no idea wat COM means] and i finnally got it to say GPS(on) in the corner,
but stillllllllll no readings. whats wrong?
and does anybody else know any good speedometers??

Re: gps speedo

sk8rseth, I think you're GPS isn't on. You may want to try a primer, GPS Viewer for example. There, you can set the COM, should be COM4, and baudrate 4800. Open GPS, and I'd do a cold start. If you see the tool, it real easy.

Anyway, try that, leave it on, then try gps speedo. Haven't used that myself, so I'm just guess actually.

Re: gps speedo

I got nothing then. But maybe that's why you get the "...port may already be in use" ????

Drive the posted speed limits, and you wont have to worry about it

Re: gps speedo

On message part:
after upgrading to the official rom my GPS worked perfectly for a couple of days with the Sprint Navigation, but today I tried to show someone how cool this is, and I couldn't make it work. Standing outdoors it tries to get a signal for about 5 minutes then displays a box saying "GPS signal is weak. Move to an open area..."

I've seen this thing get a good position in 20 seconds while sitting in my office. Now I can't get a signal with 360 degrees of clear sky. How can that happen? Do I need this "primer"? Testing some of the programs mentioned above.

Off message part:
Negrito, can you send me that cool Apple screen background, or tell me where to get it? I'd heading for LinuxWorld in San Francisco and that would be a nice conversation starter.

Re: gps speedo

Thanks to Negrito for mentioning http://www.geoterrestrial.com/ gps today! I LOVE IT! it locks on to the satellites way quicker than google maps(and is more accurate), and I love the functions, and it's legit free! How cool. It auto shows on the map all my contacts which is a very good way to realize if I am near a friend or business without even thinking to look at it.
