sync the htc touch with ubuntu linux ?

I've got the htc touch diamond (running wm6.1) and ubuntu intrepid v8.10 installed. Tethering and syncing worked out of the box.. no command lines, updates, upgrades, software installations necessary. Now if you're using ubuntu hardy v8.04 you can get your phone to sync w/ synce and tether using the method described on http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...ethering+linux

In Summary, you need to go System>Administration>Synaptic Package Manager and make sure all of the following programs are installed.

multisync-tools multisync0.90 opensync-module-python opensync-plugin-evolution opensync-plugin-google-calendar opensync-plugin-synce python-opensync synce-gnomevfs synce-gvfs synce-hal synce-sync-engine synce-trayicon

Also, I did open an terminal and type "sudo modprobe ipaq" Not sure if this made a difference....

Reboot and the synce-trayicon should start. Right click to browse files, works like a charm.

I ran through that walk through but still no luck. maybe cuz in an linux noob but for the life of me i cant get my sprint touch to sync at all. do u have any suggestions as to what to do next?
