Blueant Z9 upgrade problem....need help / ideas.

I recently bought a Blueant Z9 (thanks to all the reviews here), and i would like to upgrade the firmware. I tried following the instructions that came with the DL, but it is not recognizing my device (Z9).

Has anyone had luck or problems upgrading the firmware on one of these? It seems very straight forward, but i can not get the driver to install, therefore the device is not recognized. It will charge via the USB cable, but nothing more.

I followed the instructions, held down the VOL+ button while pluggin the Z9 in, held it for a few seconds, tried holding it longer, shorter, not at all ect. I have tried this on 2 different XP Pro machines now. Going to give it a whirl on my Vista box right now.

Any ideas at all?

I had that problem too intially. It turned out to be a defective USB cable. I convinced BlueAnt to send me a new one and then it worked fine.

I just got it to flash. What a pain in the ***.

Plugged it in while holding the VOL+, and the Generic Blutooth Blah Blah would show up in the Device Manager (Vista), BUT it would go away and sound the unplugged hardware alert after a couple seconds. The upgrade would not go.

Ended up having to hold the VOL+ button to get the Generic Bluetooth Device to stay in the Device Manager long enough to click Update Driver with the one used for the firmware flash. After that it was another game of hold the button long enough while plugging in to get the flash to take it.

Huge pain. This does not seem well engineered, or all 3 of my machines just dont like the device.

Actually I was all set to get a Z9 and then saw the Z9i. Would you still recommend the original over the i version? I hate when a new version of something comes out so quickly. Thanks
