Vogue + cad radio issue

Ok here is my problem :

my cd player in my car has a 2.5mm headphone jack as show in this picture.

i purchased a mini-usb to 2.5mm female headphone adapter, then a 1.5ft 2.5mm male-male cable, plugged it in to my phone and the other end into the cd player. I made sure my cd player was set to "aux1" and tried to play music over my cad radio from my phone. when i play music i only get sound coming out of the phone...nothing comes out of the car radio. please note, i tried "aux2" and "aux3" as well just to see if maybe i was on the wrong channel... am i doing something wrong? or is there something i have to do on the phone to make it play thru into the radio?

any assistance would be much appreciated. thanks.
