Re: Bell HTC Touch GPS - Newbie Questions
yeah right, they wouldnt take time from there important lives to call or even send a letter to let you know an update was available for your phone. i went to the bell site and had them call me, its a request u can do, i like wasting bells time, so i had the guy confirm that the htc rom upgrade for the htc touch was authentic.

Re: Bell HTC Touch GPS - Newbie Questions
I hope this might be helpful for this thread (sorry for cross-posting):
_____________________________________ I seem to know why SOMETIMES it takes forever to get a satellite lock with GPS. (I learn that many users experience this problem, including those on Bell, and including those with NSFSAN's ROM 1.10, like me). After you get a successful lock, a few satellite numbers (like those 4,2,9,12,22 etc, that you see in GPSViewer) are stored somewhere on the phone. Next, when after some time (overnight, let's say), you try to get another lock, the OLD satellites moved, they are not available anymore, but the phone tries to use them anyway, WITHOUT UPDATING... (my highly subjective perception after some observations is that if there's is one-two OLD satellites still avaialble, it may be still OK for the phone to find the new ones, but if NONE of the old satellites are available, the phone is stuck, and may sit forever looking for them.. what helps is a SOFT-RESET (which clears some memory, I suppose) - after that - ther's a A FAST (10ns) LOCK, with NEW SET OF SATELLITES (e.g .13. 15. 3. 7 etc ).. so my question is WHERE those satellite are stored, and how to clean them without doing a soft-reset? ("HTC GPS Tool" that has some "clear-memory" button does not seems to help, maybe because it is for another phone model?) _________________________________________________ |

I hope they weren't referring to the freezing & bluetooth fix located at the HTC that has been out since mar/apr this year; which probably occurred if a few execs complained. I haven't noticed Bell at all listing upgrade (support) information on their site nor have I noticed yet upgrades for any phones even at the HTC site. I think as a Bell user, we're stuck with any hacks that folks here and xda-developers can provide us. |

Re: Bell HTC Touch GPS - Newbie Questions
indeed. the guy i spoke with directed me to htc's support webpages and i selected the touch from bell. bell doesnt post anything on the website about updates for phones, its only when u call and complain, that they tell you theres a update of some sort.

Re: Bell HTC Touch GPS - Newbie Questions
Ever since I flipped that setting, my cold start time to fix has gone to about 20 sec-1 minute from 2-6 mins. One thing I did notice is that in Garmin XT, when I start, it sometimes says "3D GPS Location" with only 1-2 satellites (it won't navigate in this state). If I turn off the phone for a few seconds and then back on, it goes back to saying "Acquiring Stallelites" and acquires lock with ~45 secs.

Re: Bell HTC Touch GPS - Newbie Questions
You probably know this by now but the official Bell mobility rom update is up, this enables GPS and Rev A.
Heres the main thread about it. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=34220 I get locks within 10 sec now... and no need to flash before you take it in for service. |

![]() ![]() Yep, I can confirm that Bell's latest ROM enables both GPS and Rev A, and I get a lock within maybe 10-15 seconds. The ROM is dated the 23rd of August on HTC's website. Cheers! |
