Can I use a Sprint Touch with Alltel? What's the risk?

I should know the answer to this, but I haven't done it before and two seperate reps with Alltel told me it can't be done because they use different technology (I don't know what they meant since both companies use CDMA) and when I told them that wasn't true one rep said that it couldn't be done because Sprint doesn't have e911. When I informed her that Sprint did have e911 she said that she didn't know why, but she knew it couldn't be done, but she would transfer me to tech support.

If I were to use the Sprint Touch would it work? Would I be able to use data and sms? What if I flashed an Alltel version of the Sprint rom (with Rev A, GPS, WM6.1), how would that effect it? Would it work? Would it work better?

I did search, but I found conflicting info everywhere. Thanks for your help.

i think it has to do with acceptable ESN ranges. The ESN on the Sprint version of the phone is in a certain range that Alltel wont accept.

care to elaborate on your issue and how you overcame it? perhaps that sort of information could prove worthy for another member of our community.

Re: Can I use a Sprint Touch with Alltel? What's the risk?

ran the wrong program on the phone and that wiped all the security settings out and encoded it with other than factory passcodes, had to unlock the msl and then change it with qualcom server, also had to spend some time sweet-talking Alltel customer service reps to give me the factory security settings so i could access the internet and make non-roaming calls once again. Just a mistake that i did even after the forum post warned against it. oops....won't be doing that again.....

Re: Can I use a Sprint Touch with Alltel? What's the risk?

its a good idea to use CDMA Workshop to backup your PRL settings and use QPST to backup a few more settings, make copies of any settings you can it helped me to restore my 6900 back to working condition after i flashed with a new radio rom that erased my PRL back to factory.

Re: Can I use a Sprint Touch with Alltel? What's the risk?

I have a sprint touch on alltel,,,

I just used the routine for supercid the phone,, but I changed the cid to ALLTE001

this allowed me to flash the stock alltel rom to the sprint touch,, then just called alltel and had them do an esn swap.... easy peasy puddin pie
