hiding dot files (create by Mac)

I've spent a great deal of time searching, but cannot find the answer to my problem, so I help someone on this wonderful forum can help me.

I often copy files to my phone using the Mac Finder, but do so creates a hidden dot file with the same name (ie, something.cab creates a complimentary .something.cab file). This makes viewing files on the phone a bit of a pain. Is there something simple I'm missing were Windows Mobile won't hide hidden files on the SD card?

Thanks.

Re: hiding dot files (create by Mac)

Welcome.

I haven't used a mac for 10 years. Are you transferring the files to the card directly (card reader) or thru the phone?

in the phone's "file explorer" check the menu option to "Show All Files"

Re: hiding dot files (create by Mac)

Thanks for the welcome. This forum has been wonderful to me getting my phone to the way Bell should have made it in the first place

I'm transferring the files directly though the phone connect to the computer (and thus the phone is acting as the card reader), but really the way of transferring shouldn't matter. No matter how the Mac transfers files to the phone, it always creates the extra dot files in order to store extra information that the underlying file system cannot store (fat or fat32 in this case). Most OS's just hide these files, since they are marked as hidden. For some reason my upgraded touch no longer hides these files. I'd imagine it is just a registry setting or something, but I cannot find it.

Show all files option in file explorer is unchecked, too bad it isn't just that easy.

I get it, you want it to hide them... ok, and the stock rom did hide them?

Re: hiding dot files (create by Mac)

I am fairly certain it did. I used the stock ROM for over 3 months, and copied lots of stuff to and from the micro SD card, and never saw the the dot files.

Re: hiding dot files (create by Mac)

interesting
I'm kinda in the middle of a "breakthrough" , with something that's been on the top of my list for many months.

maybe someone else will have some insight, but I will come back to this later if not, as I would like to somehow customize what file types are hidden.
